A fun look at what Whitney & Company team members support / enjoy in the community
Christopher has more than 20 years of experience in the investment management industry including responsibilities in trading, equity research, portfolio management and relationship management. He was drawn to Whitney & Company in part because of its RIA structure, in which advisors are compensated not for selling products, but for giving sound advice and managing clients’ money.
For Christopher, the most rewarding part of his work is meeting the needs of his clients and knowing they have full confidence in him. He believes the most important job at Whitney & Company is keeping people on the right path and helping them make calm, rational decisions, no matter what the market’s doing. He’s built a reputation for treating clients as if they were part of his family, often going above and beyond financial advice, from conversations about life changes to decisions about home improvements.
Before joining Whitney & Company, Christopher held positions at Canandaigua National Bank & Trust, Canal Front Capital Management (where he was co-founder) and Cobblestone Capital Advisors. He earned his BBA in Finance from the University of Kentucky and his MBA from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester.
Outside of work, Christopher enjoys playing golf and skiing, along with spending time with his wife, two children, and two dogs. He’s also served on the board of Joyful Rescues, an animal shelter in Cuba, N.Y.
Rob grew up in upstate New York, dividing his time between academics, athletics and outdoor activities. As someone who is both competitive and curious, Rob was drawn to financial markets and the challenge of investing at an early age. He graduated from Hamilton College with a BA in Economics and moved to New York City to pursue an investment career.
Before joining Whitney & Company, Rob spent over 20 years in equity research and portfolio management roles, primarily at Manning & Napier Advisors, Inc. and Bear Sterns & Company. During his time at Manning & Napier, he built a consistent track record of investment success which enabled him to become a partner in the firm and a member of the firm’s Senior Research Group.
In 2017, Rob decided to leave the corporate world to join Whitney & Company, where he was drawn to the firm’s family atmosphere and the opportunity to work more directly with clients. As Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Rob leads a research team that shapes the firm’s investment strategy and selects investments for client portfolios. He also works closely with a select group of clients, partnering with the firm’s financial planning team to help those clients address a broad array of financial challenges.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two children. A sports enthusiast, Rob is active in the Rochester tennis community and as a coach for several of his kids’ youth sports teams. He’s also served on an advisory board for a student-managed investment fund at SUNY Geneseo. He lives in Pittsford and is a member of the Tennis Club of Rochester.
Billy has grown up around this industry, and specifically Whitney & Company. He enjoys getting to know clients on a professional level and having a meaningful impact on their lives. Today, he has eight years of direct experience in the financial services industry, along with an extensive background in business start-ups—plus a lifetime of learning at his father’s side (Bill Shaheen). That upbringing has made the financial services profession second nature for Billy and sharpened his instincts in a business he’s grown to love. He’s witnessed firsthand the evolution of the profession through the years, from an industry of money managers to one that requires a more holistic planning process and closer client relationships.
Fascinated by the stories behind individual businesses, Billy enjoys studying each one closely, connecting the dots, and helping with investment decision-making within the firm. His entrepreneurial mindset gives him a fresh perspective on how business works and how to spot companies that are functioning well.
His upbringing taught Billy about more than money matters. He learned the importance of giving back to the community from his father and grandfather, who used to take him around the region to different churches to support charitable causes like food drives. Taking good care of people, Billy says, is at the core of how he was raised. Today, he supports numerous philanthropic efforts, including animal welfare and an effort to help inner-city youth.
Billy earned his BS in Business Administration from St. John Fisher College.
Adam has more than 20 years of experience in the investment management industry with responsibilities ranging from wealth planning, research, and portfolio management to compliance and practice management. He earned the CFP® shortly after starting his career and eventually transitioned to a practice management role overseeing operations while maintaining wealth planning responsibilities. While he enjoyed the teamwork and focus on company growth, utilizing technology and implementing processes to enhance company efficiency, and practice management Adam felt something was missing. After a short stint in the practice management roles, he joined Whitney & Company in 2017 where he is leading the firms’ financial planning efforts. Joining Whitney & Company filled the void he was feeling and allowed him to get back to his planning roots at a firm with a high standard for client care that matches his own. Adam is motivated by helping individuals and families create the financial strategies that best suit their unique lifestyle, work-life, and family life. He and fellow planners strive to make client’s financial pictures clear and uncomplicated so they, and their family, can live their best life.
Before joining Whitney & Company, Adam served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer at LVW Advisors and at Cobblestone Capital Advisors in various roles, from wealth planning to operational oversight. He holds a BS in accounting and an MBA, both from St. John Fisher College. He also earned the CFP® designation in 2001.
A sports enthusiast, Adam is a volunteer softball and basketball coach in the Special Olympics program. He enjoys golf, hiking, and spending time with his wife, three children, and two dogs. He also serves on the Penfield Wrestling sports booster board.
Bill has more than 27 years of experience in the Financial Advisory, Planning, and Asset Management business.
He was drawn to Whitney & Company in part because the firm’s business model as an RIA, whose independence and non-product bias brings significant benefits to clients. Bill also relates to the firm’s deep sense of responsibility to clients—he relishes getting to know every facet of their lives and being there for them in their moments of greatest need. Bill also enjoys staying connected to his clients on a more personal level, offering them context and insight that puts their minds at ease, especially during times of challenging markets.
Before joining Whitney & Company in 2008, Bill was a Financial Advisor with AXA Advisors and Director of Retirement Planning and Design with the Angelo Planning Group. He earned his BA in Economics with a minor in Business Administration from St. Michaels College in Vermont.
Outside of work, Bill enjoys golf, landscaping, and has had a 55 year passion with all forms of racing at Watkins Glen International, attending events with his brothers. He currently serves on the Webster, N.Y., School District Budget Advisory Committee.
He and his wife of 38 years, Maria, have three daughters.
A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) with 15 years of experience in equity research and portfolio management, Bill believes in sharing a common-sense explanation of investments with clients that goes beyond the numbers and valuations. It’s important to him to help clients have a fuller understanding of the hows and whys, while making them easy to understand. Bill spends a majority of his time developing investment ideas and managing the firm’s portfolio, while also cultivating new client relationships. He brings with him an inherent passion for the “game” he sees as core to his profession: The challenge of evaluating potential assets. Applying a disciplined approach. And encouraging confidence and calm among clients.
Bill joined Whitney & Company in 2020, drawn to the firm for its emphasis on client relationships and its holistic approach to financial planning. Prior to Whitney & Company, Bill most recently worked at Manning & Napier, where he was responsible for covering multiple sectors and industries and consistently identified and recommended investment ideas that performed well ahead of the benchmark. He earned his BBA in Finance from St. Bonaventure University.
Outside of work, Bill, who returned to upstate New York from Tampa, Florida, to join the firm, enjoys family time and getting out to hike, bike, ski, and play basketball or soccer.
While Danielle formally joined Whitney & Company in 2016, her experience with the firm dates back to high school. She would come into the office on weekends then, and do a variety of tasks to help her father, Bill Shaheen. As a young adult, she ventured off into the legal profession as a court stenographer before she found her way back. And that experience in another field has served her well.
Today, she manages the firm’s SEC compliance matters—something her legal background has come in handy with. She helps the firm navigate new laws and new directives from the SEC, so the firm is clear on how new measures may affect Whitney & Company. Danielle is also a Notary and is pursuing her IAACP, a professional Compliance Certification. She attended Alfred State College to pursue a degree in Court Stenography.
Paperwork can be overwhelming for people, and Danielle prides herself on making it easier to manage. It’s how she does her part to contribute to an overall culture of mutual support and collaboration at Whitney & Company, ultimately putting clients’ minds at ease.
Outside of work, Danielle enjoys reading and spending time with her fiancé and her two children, including watching her son play basketball and soccer.
Like many in the Shaheen family, Ivette was drawn to Whitney & Company work life by virtue of her home life with her husband, Bill. She’s supported the firm for more than 25 years, and says it helps that she and Bill make a good team both at home and at work.
As office manager over a long period of time, Ivette has watched as the firm has grown—and as her two children, Billy and Danielle—have grown up with it. Both kids now work at Whitney & Company, too. She says seeing her son and daughter come into their own at the firm has been an especially proud moment. And the fact that the family has all found a place of their own in the same workplace is a testament to their approach to treating clients like family, too. Ivette has always liked the respect colleagues find at Whitney & Company—a place where you’re more likely to hear “we” and “our” than “me” and “mine.”
Outside of work, Ivette enjoys gardening and crafting, and can often be found in her craft room painting flowerpots, creating wreaths, or making gifts for friends at holiday time. She also enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and playing golf—with Bill.
True professionalism and real caring are values Alicia holds dear, which is why she’s found an ideal professional home right here. Alicia has worked in the financial profession since 2017. Prior to joining Whitney & Company in 2021, she helped a startup financial services firm build out their CRM and other operational systems from the ground up, as the firm grew to $250 million in AUM and nine employees in two-and-a-half years.
Her enthusiasm for creating valuable processes is vital in the financial services business. But it was in the manufacturing industry where Alicia’s passion for process improvement and documentation first began to flourish. In her 15 years in that industry, she found fulfillment in seeing how internal processes could have a direct impact on customer service and leadership. Alicia later discovered the relevance of her skills to the financial services business, where building relationships with clients is crucial. Particularly at a client-focused firm like Whitney & Company.
At Whitney & Company, Alicia is a key part of our Operations Group and works most closely with colleagues—and occasionally with clients—to help everyone navigate different processes involved in our relationships with one another. Improving processes makes our work more efficient, so we can serve clients better.
Outside of work, Alicia and her husband enjoy travel, including road trips around the U.S. and visits to Iceland and Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. She is also an accomplished runner, having completed multiple half marathons. Alicia holds a B.S. in organizational management from Keuka College.
